Purple Sage fifth graders studied the Jitterbug paintings of William Johnson and the Harlem Renaissance. They demonstrated the principles balance, unity, movement, pattern, emphasis and contrast in addition to the elements of art. This lesson was shared with me by a colleague at Laurel Mountain ES in RRISD, inspired by a published lesson in either Arts & Activities or School Arts ('99 or 2000?)
